ITU Award

Iridium was the proud recipient of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Humanitarian Award for its work with the ITU-Development Sector on Emergency Communications. Iridium received the award not only for the equipment contributions we have made to the ITU, but also for the significant effort we have put into working with governments to establish best practices for preparing for disasters and the communications needs that follow, including prepositioning and training on equipment. Iridium was recognized as a leader in machine-to-machine (M2M) services on the 2013 ConnectWorld 100 list. Issued by Connected World Magazine, the annual list is a compilation of the top 100 technology providers in M2M and connected devices. Read more.

Iridium CEO Matt Desch Named Satellite Executive of the Year 2011

Via Satellite announced Iridium CEO Matt Desch as Satellite Executive of the Year 2011. Satellite executives have been recognized with this award for more than 20 years and Mr. Desch has now joined this elite roster of individuals who have made a lasting impact on the global satellite market. Mr. Desch will be featured on the cover of Via Satellite magazine’s March 2012 issue. Read more.

2011 MSUA Innovation Award for Iridium 9602

Mobile Satellite Users Association (MSUA) honours mobile satellite innovators and pioneers with the Pioneer and Innovations Awards. Iridium has been honored with the Innovation Award for its Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) product, Iridium 9602.

North American Telecom Deal of the Year 2010

Project Finance magazine awarded Iridium Communications Inc. the North American Telecom Deal of the Year 2010. The award was based on the $1.8 billion deal with Coface -the French export credit agency - to finance Iridium's next-generation satellite constellation, Iridium NEXT. Project Finance credited Iridium with bringing the "largest and most complex of a series of export financings for satellite projects to market."

2010 IABC Excel and Telly Awards

In 2010, Iridium Communications Inc. received two honors for outstanding achievement in marketing and communications. We have been recognized for our strength in brand communication, with an IABC Excel Award (from the International Association of Business Communicators), and also earned a Telly Award, in honor of the Iridium Corporate video.

2010 GTB Power100

Iridium CEO Matt Desch named as one of the 100 most powerful people in the worldwide telecoms industry. The list was compiled from nominations by worldwide the leaders of Global Telecoms Business — including CEOs, CFOs and other senior executives of the world’s major telecoms operators, vendors and organizations. Desch also made the list in 2009.


2010 M2M 100, 2009 M2M 100, 2008 M2M 100

Iridium has been cited three times running for the M2M 100, an annual list of the most important and influential machine-to-machine technology providers as determined by the editors of M2M magazine and its editorial advisory board. It gives a snapshot of the market today and the companies with the greatest impact on its direction.


2009 Inc 500|5000

Iridium ranked 3,462 in the Inc. 500|5000 list of the fastest-growing companies from 2005 through 2008.


2007 Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award

The GTB Innovation Awards honor innovative projects involving telecoms operators and service providers around the world, in association with their vendors and suppliers. Iridium won for Iridium OpenPort.


2007 Safety at Sea International Award

This award, organized by Safety at Sea International magazine, recognizes innovative developments in safety equipment, systems, training and operations/management. An independent judging panel assessed the entries. The systems award went to Active Web Solutions (AWS), an Iridium value-added developer, for its MOB Guardian search-and-rescue system, which uses the Iridium satellite network to provide automated data links between vessels in distress and shore rescue centers. AWS developed the award-winning system infrastructure on behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
